The Black Monarch was re-built after a fire in 1899 as a brothel, casino, and saloon. It is a storied slice of Victorian era Americana , nestled in the beautiful Rocky Mountain gold rush city of Victor, Colorado. The building is exquisite in its design and well preserved with original windows, doors, tin ceilings, and stairs. Local legend states that the building is haunted by the ghost of a miner who died in a gunfight, and was originally wired by electrical genius Nikola Tesla.

You will be immediately overwhelmed with the incredible beauty and rich history of this enormous Victorian Gothic brothel!

Featuring 12 and 15 foot ceilings throughout, ornate solid oak doors, huge bay windows, and original hard wood floors... this spooky Rocky Mountain getaway is a must for the alternative traveler!

The building is currently under the process of being lovingly restored by its new owners. Every room has been uniquely themed and decorated with luxurious furniture, creepy art, authentic taxidermy, and very real oddities. Every piece has been individually curated and picked by the owners.

This room is themed after the Leicestershire, England bogeyman figure; Black Annis. The cave and forest dwelling witch is purported to kidnap poorly behaved children, eating them and tanning their hides... and can be traced back to ancient Celtic myths of the forest goddess Danu.

This 350 square foot room features a king size pillow top “porch swing” bed suspended by rope, and layered with decadent faux fur throws, included a full-size faux bear hide!

We used natural cut faux hides, terrariums, crystals, tapestries, and tons of real plants to create a natural and organic feel.

Guests have access to a common kitchen that is fully equipped with modern amenities.

The town of Victor is bursting with rustic Gold Rush charm, is minutes from Cripple Creek and just an hour southwest of Colorado Springs. It’s the ideal mountain town getaway, yet far from being a tourist trap.

We are in a remote location so a vehicle is recommended. There is ample free street parking available along 3rd St and Victor Ave.
